27 Feb SOP-06 6 kg Coffee Roaster Installation in Pyoseon, Jeju

Hello, this is SIEBENSTER, setting the standard for premium coffee roasting.

We recently installed SIEBENSTER’s ambitious new SOP-06 model at a roastery cafe in Pyoseon, Jeju.

Preparing for the Jeju Installation

Because Jeju is an island, transportation is difficult.

It would be best to get lucky and find a small cargo truck that regularly runs to Jeju, but that is really hard to do,

and when we got quotes from a few carriers, they asked anywhere from a minimum of 1.7 million won to a maximum of 4 million won.

Shipping costs had risen far too much compared with when we installed in Jeju in the past, so when we checked what was going on,

we found that, because of the recent passenger ferry accident off the coast of Sinan, the number of ferry sailings to Jeju had been cut in half,

and logistics costs had apparently risen very sharply in proportion.

For installations in Jeju, consolidated (shared-truck) freight is the norm, and a forklift is essential when freight is consolidated.

And forklifts turned out to be much more expensive on the island, too.

The New Heart of a Jeju Roastery Cafe: SIEBENSTER SOP-06 Installation Story

This installation took place on Jeju Island, where black basalt and an emerald-green sea stretch out.
For breakfast I had haejangguk (Korean hangover soup) at Eunhuine~ and as I was taking photos, the stones you can only see by the Jeju sea looked just like the blood curds in the soup, I tell you~

So is that why Jeju’s haejangguk is famous? Haha

The place we were installing at this time is a brand-new roastery cafe, with a newly constructed building being set up.

It will be run by a young couple, and they plan to operate it together with a guesthouse, in a setting with a view of the sea.

If you are ever in Pyoseon, it is well worth stopping by.

It has not opened yet, so the business name has not been decided.

It is such a lovely place that once it opens, we would like to visit again, stay a night, and introduce it in more detail.

We had discussed everything with the customer in advance, but this installation environment is not an easy one.

That is because equipment cannot be used to reach the building.
We have to carry it up to the building along that long path, and on top of that, the roasting room is in an annex, so we have to get all the way to the annex…
and that path is a narrow trail (sigh)

The surroundings will become a flower garden in the future, but right now it is the worst possible situation for us.

On top of that, even once we reach the annex, the final step is about 30 cm high, and with no way to use a forklift or a lift, this is truly the most difficult installation imaginable.

Above all, because the frame thickness of this new model has been reinforced enormously, the weight is beyond anything you can imagine.

Even four adult men lifting together cannot raise even the front, which is relatively lighter.

Who would have thought that our good intention of increasing thermal mass would backfire on us like this (sigh)

But who are we, after all!

Applying advanced skill, we got it safely into place – bam!!!!

All of the transport was wrapped up within 30 minutes!

And then the whirlwind installation begins.

While we were installing, the gas contractor arrived and completed all the connections.

After the gas connection, SIEBENSTER also sets up the heating power and checks once more, thoroughly, for gas leaks.

The model installed this time is the new 6 kg roaster, the SOP-06, a solid product that we can highly recommend for shop roasteries.

After finishing all the setup, we even ran a test batch.

With ample heating power and space inside the drum, even an 8 kg batch finishes roasting within 12 minutes, and no defects caused by agitation occur.
