These days, I keep realizing anew that the coffee market is becoming polarized.

Demand is growing for large machines such as 30 kg, 60 kg, and 120 kg.

It is regrettable in a way that the coffee market has turned into a game of chicken, but you can’t beat the market.

In this situation, SIEBENSTER would like to offer an answer to the question of how to secure a competitive edge.

After a brief installation story, I will introduce the SIEBENSTER 30 kg roaster, focusing on its overwhelming advantages.

SIEBENSTER is located in Paju (near Yadang Station).

Since it takes about 4 hours to get from Paju to Jeonju, for out-of-town installations we load the equipment the day before and arrange to arrive at the site at 9 a.m. the next morning.

We finished loading everything around sunset. A full 30 kg set is transported on a 5-ton truck.

Arrived on site at 9 a.m.! At the customer’s request, we carried out the installation on a Saturday.

​

With the recent downturn hurting not only roaster manufacturers but equipment suppliers in general,

the questions that inquiring customers always ask are ones premised on anxiety about after-sales support.

For example: Is after-sales service reliable?

What happens if SIEBENSTER goes out of business?

Is the parts supply reliable?

​

But I can tell you firmly that there is no need to worry!

As for after-sales service, we respond as quickly as possible, day or night, including weekends, so please keep that in mind as well.

​

Enough of the small talk. Back to the installation story.

Fortunately, since it was a Saturday the roads were not congested, so even with a 5-ton truck we had no difficulty with the installation.

​

However, the forklift driver called in at the site was unskilled and even irritable, which was a bit unpleasant.

But we brushed it off with a few sprinkles of salt, so to speak, and got back to focusing, haha.

​

We completed the entire installation in about 4 hours.

The 30 kg model is three-phase as standard, but single-phase is also possible if three-phase power is not available at the site.

At today’s site, the distribution panel was quite far away and, on top of that, in a separate space behind a partition, so it took somewhat longer.

Even so, we neatly finished everything, down to the molding for the power cable.

We coordinated the schedule with the gas contractor in the morning, and the steel-pipe work went well, so we were able to start a trial run right away.

The owner of the gas company who came out was extremely kind and accommodated all of our requirements regarding safety equipment.

On top of that, they even lent us a ladder and a hole saw for drilling openings on site, which made the work very smooth.

The unpleasantness we felt in the morning was washed away before we knew it, and we finished the work in good spirits.

Duct installation had not yet been done at the site, but since we had come such a long way, we decided to do one batch of test roasting.

We charged 35 kg!

As for the smoke, we decided to just open all the doors and let it out.

​

Of all days, it rained heavily, so the smoke hung low along the ground. The smoke was… enormous, as if there were a fire!

There was a neighbor next door and it was the weekend, so we were a little nervous, but fortunately we completed the batch successfully.

​

I heard from the customer later that they accidentally weighed out and roasted 45 kg, and that even 45 kg turned out very well with discharge at 15 minutes.

At our headquarters, we have only tested up to 35 kg.

​

SIEBENSTER roasters come standard with almost all the conveniences needed for roasting.

On the unit above, three items were added as options: full automation, an airlock cyclone, and a green coffee conveyor. Everything else is standard configuration.

​

Now let me briefly explain the features of the SIEBENSTER 30 kg roaster.

​

A shelf for a tablet is provided.

Currently, because the automated roaster uses an embedded HMI, the shelf is located at the rear for Artisan integration.

However, because an AI roaster with a server built into the roaster itself will be released, a keyboard and mouse will become essential at that point, and its position will be moved to the front panel,

as planned.

​

This is the distribution panel of the 30 kg roaster.

It is built in strict compliance with industrial standards.

For stability, it includes an SMPS, a phase protector, and an overcurrent protection device, and 3 inverters come as standard, with the option to fit inverters to every drive system on request. That brings the total to as many as 4.

Although not visible in the photo, a Wi-Fi router is also provided as standard for connecting to Artisan and Firescope on the fully automatic version.

This is the automation controller.

It uses a 10-inch Delta HMI. It is laid out intuitively, so once you try it, the controls are very easy to learn.

During roasting you adjust the drum, the cyclone, and the heating power. These three values can be changed by touch,

but they can also be controlled with the single multi-function dial visible in the photo.

The physical buttons are separate controls for the essential functions you need if the HMI fails,

and because they are direct buttons that do not go through the HMI, you can use them more conveniently and safely.

This is the airlock cyclone. Once you use one, there is no going back with this either.

Besides making it very easy to dispose of chaff, the advantage of the airlock cyclone lies in its emergency response: it prevents a fire from spreading into a major fire.

In any roaster that uses an upward-firing burner, a fire can break out in the cyclone when the exhaust is weak (that is, when the downdraft inside the cyclone is weak).

With an airlock cyclone, a fire can be detected early, so it can be kept from spreading into a major fire.

Next is the drum motor, the feature of SIEBENSTER roasters I most want to emphasize.

We use a Japanese SUMITOMO gear reducer.

The reason is that it does not lock in the reverse direction.

As you can see in the photo, the crank supplied with the roaster lets you turn the drum by hand very easily.

When the crank is used, the reduction ratio is bypassed and it turns at 1:1.

One turn of the crank actually turns the drum one full turn, and even women can rotate it easily.

You may ask, ‘Why is this needed?’ But… if you have ever had a roaster’s drum stop, even once, because of the various variables on site,

you will understand why this is a must-have feature!!!
