Notice of Changes to the SIEBENSTER 3 kg Coffee Roaster

“The species that survives is not the strongest, nor the most intelligent, but simply the one that adapts most quickly to change.”

_Charles Darwin

Hello, this is SIEBENSTER Coffee Roasters.

SIEBENSTER supplies large cast-iron roasters to the market at reasonable prices. Although we are only just entering our third year, so many customers have chosen us that we have been able to establish ourselves in the market quickly.

What we consider most important is the evaluation of those who use our products.

After all, users’ needs are exactly the direction we should be heading in.

There is a saying we always keep in a corner of our minds.

“Don’t fall in love with your own product.”

SIEBENSTER aims to faithfully reflect what users ask for.

That is why there are quite a few changes to our products this year.

First, here are a few photos of the existing product.

1. The controller knob is replaced with an inverter remote.

Previously, to check the inverter values, you had to open the machine’s electrical panel.

I had assumed this would not be a big problem, but when I roast myself I do not just use the knob; I set exact values, and that made me feel this was essential. So we mounted an inverter remote on the controller itself, so that it can be used easily without having to open the side panel.

This may be TMI, but there is actually another reason we adopted the remote right away~ The knob is a device that outputs a 0-10 V voltage signal.

However, when a limit is set on the frequency value in the inverter itself, there was a problem that the knob became less usable.

For example, if you artificially set a 30 Hz limit on a 60 Hz inverter, the knob ends up locked at a frequency value of 30 Hz everywhere above 50%.

The ideal would be that, when a limit is set at 30 Hz, the knob proportionally controls 0-30 Hz across its full 0-100% range, but since it does not, ease of use suffers.

2. The existing table type is replaced entirely by the stand type.

This was originally an option, but starting with this product, everything is standardized on the stand type alone. Material costs do go up, of course, but we are keeping the price the same~

For use in a shop, the stand type gives the impression of more professional, dedicated equipment, and it is also easier to build because the stand type has ample internal space, so we decided to standardize on that one type.

3. All access panels become magnetic one-touch type, for maintenance

Previously, the access panels that must be opened frequently for cleaning, such as those on the underside and sides of the cooler, were all bolted types.

Now, like the Probat P3 model, all access panels are changed to a magnetic one-touch design.

After all, panels have to be easy to release for you to feel like cleaning even one more time.

4. Automatic Power Off

An automatic TIME-OFF function, which lets you head home sooner after finishing roasting, is being applied to all roasters.

Because SIEBENSTER has no shaft running across the entire drum, the shaft will not bend even if the machine is not cooled down sufficiently.

Even so, emotionally, it is hard to shake a strong sense of unease when you turn the machine off without cooling down.

So the reality is that people put up with the hassle of waiting a long time.

On top of that, because SIEBENSTER is a cast-iron roaster with very good insulation, it takes about 2 hours for the machine to cool down.

As with everything, there are pros and cons: because the structure transfers heat to the green coffee so effectively, the residual heat is also high, and that can be an inconvenience during cool-down.

For this reason, we have built into all products a function that lets the user easily set a time and automatically turns the power OFF once that time has elapsed.

And of course, it is free of charge~ It is a function that already exists on our automatic roasters, but we have applied it to the manual roasters as well.

5. Drum Changes

The SIEBENSTER drum is a hybrid drum that uses both cast iron and stainless steel.

Until now, STS304 was used on the outside of the drum and STS310S on the inside; we have swapped the two, so STS310S is now used on the outside and 304 on the inside.

310S is a material about twice as expensive as the commonly used 304, but its heat resistance is far better, and it is used in furnaces that require strong heating power.

Because a roaster is equipment that is used for a long time once purchased, we made this change to improve durability.

6. Detachable Chaff Bin

This change has already been applied across the board this year, but since some people may not know about it, we are introducing it again.

Chaff flying around during roasting happens when there is a problem with the airtightness of the cyclone. For this reason, the chaff bin used to be a non-detachable type, but we now achieve a perfect airtight seal with silicone sealing while making the chaff bin detachable and securing it with a hook-type fastener.

    7. Pressure Gauge

All SIEBENSTER 6 kg machines are already fitted with an air pressure gauge, but the 1 kg and 3 kg machines are excluded due to space constraints, because their controllers are small.

That concludes our introduction to the changes to the SIEBENSTER 3 kg model.
