01 Aug A Visit to Coffee Sesang in Changwon

I had a business trip to Busan coming up, and just then I received an inquiry about SIEBENSTER from the owner of Coffee Sesang in Changwon, so I went to visit.

I visited in a relaxed frame of mind, hoping to meet them, explain SIEBENSTER, and have a casual chat.

When I travel to regional cities, I strangely feel as though I’m on a trip, and I tend to unwind. Perhaps because I came here in the same relaxed spirit, I had arranged a time but showed up a full 2 hours early without letting them know.

I had no idea the owner would be so busy. ^^;

That gave me some relaxed time to myself, and I looked around every corner of the cafe.

The cafe has an unusual room layout, so each space has its own atmosphere, which I found fun.

Each room felt like a different space, and I found the sense of moving between spaces interesting.

The two photos above show the view from the entrance, and the moment you walk into the cafe, you strongly sense a multifunctional space devoted to coffee.

You can see two roasters, and a large barista-training banner is hung up, giving the place an authentic coffee-space feel right away!

I really liked how the training area and the bar face each other, and how the tables are arranged in rooms that you step into.

After a while, I sat down with the owner for a cup of coffee and a chat.

The first cup I was served was a hand drip of Ethiopia Shakiso, and a single sip was enough to tell I was in the presence of a true coffee expert.

Wine-like and fruity, the flavor was truly outstanding.

I was curious about the most basic Americano too, so I kept asking for more, and ended up tasting three cups of coffee all by myself.

While we drank coffee, we didn’t have any special conversation about coffee, but it felt like we understood each other without needing to go into details.

It was remarkable ^^

They told me the reason they got in touch about SIEBENSTER was that the roaster they were already using is also a cast-iron roaster, so they figured the nuances of the roast would be similar.

On top of that, the owner of Coffee Sesang has worked with espresso machines for many years and has a considerable understanding of machinery. It had been a long time since I felt such smooth communication, where a hint is all it takes. We had only just met, but I loved the comfort and reassurance, as if we had known each other for a long time.

We talked for several hours, discussed the schedule, and then parted ways.

I have been in the coffee industry for over 10 years and have tasted a great many kinds of coffee, and if you are in Changwon, I sincerely recommend the coffee at Coffee Sesang.

In musical terms, it’s like being able to handle everything from classical to jazz! Yes, that’s exactly the feeling.

A solid foundation, plus that savory richness when variations are layered on top.

It was a short but genuinely impactful meeting.
